In K-2, we have been looking at the processes involved in cleaning wool and what is the best thing to clean it with.
During our Archibull time, we have experimented what would be best to wash and clean the fleece. We tried 3 different ways to clean it.
Experiment 1: Baby Wipes. Why not? According to the packet they are perfect to clean up dirt. Hmmm, will they work? Each student was handed a wipe and a piece of our fleece and had to clean the wool. We found that only a small amount of dirt came out and it was still greasy. Okay..... onto the next experiment!
Experiment 2: Lets try with good, old fashioned cold water.
As you can see, it didn't really work. We found that the cold water didn't penetrate the wool at all. It sat on top of the wool and even when we agitated the wool, it didn't clean it at all! Back to the drawing board....
Experiment 3: Boiling hot water and our "rich formula for cutting through grease." It works!!! Thank goodness for that. It became a little matted but it did the job.
At the moment, our teacher has her bath tub filled with a fleece and detergent and we hope to dye it next week in art. We will post more about that later. Signing off...
The talented K-2 students.
