Mr Manton (a.k.a-Jason) came to school to teach us about all the different fleeces in the wool industry. The fleeces were Crossbread, Medium and Superfine. Mr Manton is a shearer and a lamb marker. He said he normally would shear 300 sheep by himself in a day and he would shear 500 sheep in a day with 3 shearers. He owns 2000 grown sheep and 500 lambs. He shears about 3 times a year on his own farm and goes away to shear at other peoples farms. Mr Manton told us that soon he will retire from shearing. We are very thankful that he came to teach us about wool, himself and his farm. Farmer Pat came to visit us .....When Farmer Pat came to visit, he showed us where he lives. He lives in Victoria with his loving family. He has four brothers and 1 twin brother and his 7,000 sheep. At the moment he is at Charles Sturt University in WaggaWagga, learning to be a professional farmer. He is also a Wool Classer and showed us his stamp with his stencil number on it. Farmer Pat showed us different parts of wool on the sheep. These include the fleece, belly, crutchings and much more. We learnt about different types of sheep: Corriedales, Merinos, Dorper, Gromarks and more. He talked to us about all the different jobs you can have in the Australian Wool Industry. We are very thankful that he came to visit Jugiong public school. Written by Isabelle, Dustin, Ellie, Regan and Maurie. Thank you Farmer Pat for sharing your slideshow with us. We learnt so much about The Australian Wool Industry.
